On the day I arrived in Madrid, Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela announced on the local news that, "In Madrid, there is sinning on a massive scale." It's not clear whether he was under contract with the Madrid Tourist Board to make such marketing statements, but it certainly set me up for the weekend.
El pasado sábado pude leer este artículo sobre Madrid en el suplemento de viajes de The Guardian, escrito con ese tono burlón y listillo tan inglés. Con los imprescindibles tópicos sobre que Madrid es la ciudad que nunca duerme etc, pero sorprendentemente sin mención a la siesta, costumbre que los ingleses creen a pies juntillas que los españoles seguimos todos los días después de comer (por mucho que les explico que la mayoría de la gente en Madrid no se echa la siesta sino que simplemente se toma su tiempo para comer, no hay manera de que me crean).
Curiosa mención a los churros ("long fried crispy sticks"), cuya ingestión "is rather like swallowing a duvet".
